The Crown Tavern

Revitalising the classic British pub

Phoenix Wharf was asked to refresh a cherished but overlooked pub in Bristol. We worked closely with our client Sam Gregory to realise his vision of breathing new life into this classic British boozer. Building on his success at The Bank Tavern, Sam was looking to expand his portfolio, continuing his quest of preventing traditional pubs from being redeveloped and lost forever. It was very important to revitalise the new interior while keeping its familiar feel for current customers and attracting newcomers to the St Jude’s area.

The goal was to celebrate the traditional pub without changing its essence. As such we preserved as much of the original interior as possible while ensuring it felt both modern and welcoming . Our research on classic pub design guided us in updating the décor, refurbishing the bar, and implementing a warm palette of traditional materials and furnishings. The outcome is a modern yet respectful venue that will serve as a community hub for years to come.

Concept

From start to finish Phoenix Wharf were professional, diligent and receptive of my wishes and comments. From the initial conversations and meetings, the team were very good at understanding why my business was important to me, and who I wanted my customer base to be. They took time to get to know me, my likes and dislikes and accommodate any ideas I had already thought of.

After this consultation they presented me with their ideas and the hardest part was choosing which one to go for as all of their concepts were amazing and capsulated everything I wanted. Once agreed they did a fantastic job liaising with my contractors and delivering the concept - I couldn’t be happier with the final result. Thank You!
